Meeting of experts and representatives of UNESCO

A meeting of experts and representatives of relevant institutions (national UNESCO commissions, cultural heritage agencies, ministries of culture, and others) from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan was held in Almaty. The meeting focused on the final stage of preparing the nomination dossier for the inclusion of monuments located along the “Fergana-Syrdarya corridor of the Silk Road” into the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The participants discussed the completion of years-long work on this nomination dossier. The research materials and the prepared dossier highlight the richness, cultural significance, and typological diversity of archaeological and architectural sites from the 2nd century BCE to the 16th century CE, located along the Fergana-Syrdarya corridor in modern-day Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The meeting was attended by Prof. M. A. Yusupova, Director of the “Silk Road” International Research Institute under the “Silk Road” International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage. She is also a member of the international advisory council for the working group on this nomination and the executor responsible for the dossier section on architectural monuments of Tashkent and the Tashkent region.

We express our gratitude to the meeting organizers — the Research and Design Branch of the "Kazrestoration" enterprise under the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by Director B. S. Baisalbayev and Project Manager L. S. Beysembayeva — for their invitation, collaboration, and fruitful work on this significant UNESCO nomination for the countries of Central Asia
