The team from the “Silk Road” International Research Institute participated in its first expedition, organized on May 19 of this year. The field research focused on the memorial and cultural complex of Chore Chinor, located in the Urgut district of the Samarkand region.

The Chore Chinor shrine, situated on a mountainside, is the resting place of Khodja Avlia Valikhan, Eshoni Sheikh, and Khodja Kutbiddin Khan Eshona—prominent figures of the Naqshbandi Sufi order. These spiritual mentors made significant contributions to Islamic teachings.

During the expedition, the team studied the history, architecture, and layout of the Chore Chinor complex. The Sufi khanaqah-mosque, which also served as a madrasa, was built in the late 19th to early 20th century and stands out for its unique architectural structure and layout.

Additional information regarding the construction and restoration of the complex, as well as the stages of its development, was obtained through discussions with local residents. The Institute's staff also gathered further data on the mosque-khanaqah-madrasa, providing insights into the structural and architectural characteristics of this multifunctional religious building.
